Looking for a good sounding board. Since the exhaust side of the the Magnum head is "better" than the J head should I use a single pattern cam (Comp 270 magnum) vs. a dual pattern (Comp 274 Xtreme energy) to balance the flow of intake vs. exhaust (I am looking at hydraulic only) or does it matter? 9.5 comp, 4 spd, 323 rear. Looking to make 350 to 400 hp from a 360 with a broad torque curve for street driving. NOS is a future expectation as well.

You won't feel the difference between a single or a split pattern cam. The dyno will show any differences. And depending the build, it will show very little on mild builds and not a huge amount on more potent ones.

My opinion about which cam would be the split extreme.
That's what I would use for your endeavor.

Single pattern is what i would run. You are right about the better exhaust port than a j or x head. Plus the 270H will be alot of fun with a 125hp hit of spray!!
