Do you have to have kickdown linkage if you are using a manual forward
valve body?

Not sure what one does with the linkage and more specifically the lever on the valve body on other manual setups, but with the TransGo TF-3 you can run the linkage setup as is for variable pressure (softer shifts at part throttle up to firm at wot) or just remove all the linkage and wire the lever fully back so the shifts are firm all the time.

If you are using an aftermarket manual valve body the answer is NO linkage is required.

Best to check w the manufacturer of the valve body in question. Throttle pressure can make or break a Torqeflite. Tom Hand has a nice section on that in his excellent book on them.
