Anyone know the max back space and wheel and tire combo i can get by with on my 69 dart with factory 8 3/4 rear and leaf springs relocated inboard. and should i install offset shackels? ty

Gonna have to get your terminology straight first. If you've done a 3" spring relocation, i.e., moved that springs to the frame rails, then you don't need offset shackles. It's an either/or proposition. A 1/2" offset is just that, it uses 1/2" offset hangers and shackles to move the springs a 1/2" inboard.

Either way, the biggest tire you can fit in a Dart with the stock wheel tubs is a 275. You can get that with a 1/2" offset, the 3" relocation doesn't get you any more space without a mini-tub because the stock tubs are the limiting factor after just a 1/2" offset.

So, do you have a 3" spring relocation? Have you done a mini-tub? And are you still running the small bolt pattern (5x4") axles?

sorry about that, no mini tub, 3 in relocation, big bolt, right now im running a 8' weld with 5 1/2 backspace with 255/60/15 drag radials, would like to go with the weld rts wheel 8 inch with 275/60/15 if i can without mini tub or rolling my lips. ty for the help.

Ok, that makes more sense. A 275 is tight even if the backspace is perfect, on some cars some quarter lip modification might be needed depending on your set up. With BBP axles the math answer is usually about 5.25" of backspace. But, since you're running 255's already with 8" wide rims and a 5.5" backspace we can probably get closer than that. How much clearance do you have to the quarter lips and inner tub now?

a little under 1/2 inch clearance from lip to tire.

Ouch. Only a 1/2" to the quarter lip already?

Well, you won't be able to run any less backspacing than you have now if that's the case. A 1/2" to the quarter is pretty much the minimum clearance you can have without rubbing. Unfortunately, with a 15x8 and 5.5" of backspacing you should be out of room to the inner tub too. I certainly can't see you running more backspace, and with only a 1/2" to the quarter that's exactly what you'd have to do in order to clear 275's. It sounds like you're already running the widest tire you're going to be able to run without a mini-tub or cutting/rolling the quarter lip.

curious - 3" relocation but no mini tub... why not?
