Very good project and work progress. I hope you're keeping the 273, they are great little engines. Kudos on the edgy and very artistic photography! I can't wait for more updates.

Damn. Thats some good stuff! The progress is really coming along, nice work!
Nice Mopar hoody too!

I love that hoody! I got the Trucker hat & Tee for x-mas too...

Keepin the 273. Ported it out! Should be a screamer. Porsche Lookout!
Thanks I took and edited all the pics m'self too. I love cars!

It's coming along. I wish I would have taken more photos. Good luck.

Max...good progress....great pics. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but, I hope you dont think that 273 you're rebuilding is a Commando...ie the 10.5:1 compression one. I see the car has the "273 FOUR BARREL" fender callout, and you have a Commando 4 barrel cast intake and valve covers, but the pics of the pistons show they are the 2 barrel ones...ie, 8.8 (or less) compression. I also dont see the dual-point distributor. You have a single point, used on the 2 barrel engines. Now, if you changed to the 10.5 pistons, and didnt post any pics of those, everything above is moot.

I'm not trying to your bust balls, just passing on information. :)

These are the 4-barrel pistons....note the dome, and only 2 valve reliefs.....

Ok cool insight! Had no Idea about the Pistons or Distributor Differences
My Facts:
-The pistons got Ordered by my Step-Dad (Rick MacHale) and long time Drag racer. Great engine builder and has done many Mopars, but Never owned any so he missed the boat... He may never know what it's like to have your very own, poor guy. I let him drive mine around once. He, "Was Tickled" Great guy, but anyways... The pistons are ALL replacements because one of the Wrist pin clips Un-Snapped and blew up the piston and to also gouge the Heck out of the cylinder wall. That is how I got the car after that happening and my Dad (Real one this time) Parked the dart in storage for 12-15years approx. We took the block to get sleeved and ordered the re-build kit with proper camshaft and pistons everything in the cylinder block. I was 19 and had just graduated when I had to ditch my 71 Duster/6 I just put disks on had three Webers & Offy and a 4B man. for. it too just sitting there mocking me. had Hookers (Distracted) 8,000 miles and spun 3 rod bearings doing 110 down the highway on a quart low.
My Oppinion:
-Now The car seems to make tons of Compression by slowing down hard as soon as you lift and making but loads of torque. I can't keep my foot out of it in town. It's too much fun!
-I miss the Mechanical Secondaries of the Carter cause you could always hear them Click open and get hektic. White man's V-Tech. VAROOOM tech! White power!! But the 600 CFM Holley (Vac-2nds) is a stronger performer all around.
-No Headers have ever even thought about touching this car. Untill I read about TTi's. I am already packratting other original parts safely removed for better protection. Those casts wont last in good shape at these temps...
-I have thought about Elect. Ign. and bought a replacement distributor just like the one that was on it from year one... I would like to keep to era appropriate performance mods and I mean 67 not 68! So keep that in mind with suggestions.
-I do not like the Red engine with the Medium Turquoise Exterior. I knew about Chrysler orange as a lad. But I thought that Hemi Orange sounded cooler. I think it is colmpetely without red though and feel like I should pay hommage to the Red a little. Don't really remember all the **** I just read about 273 colors, will go re-read that engine color choice one one more time before I spray of smoke a bown instead and say screw it my car girlfriend can wear whatever color painties I want her too not the ones her momma gave her...

If anyone knows the height of each above of below the deck plane @ TDC I have machine tools I know how to use and I can figure this out. Otherwise I was happy with the power and will be happier this time no doubt! Screw the pistons... No one sees em anyways

Dark blue. You might have seen it driving around San Jose/Los Gatos in the early '80s (hmm, maybe you're a little young...).

My Dart had the 273 2bbl, 904, and 13" rims. And over 200K miles, and was generally thrashed.

However, my Barracuda is a factory 273 Commando. Let me tell you, the difference is night and day.

Anyway, great to see you hard at it and making progress. Good luck!

Hey Cool! A Local region 67 Dart GT guy! Cool. I am glad to have this thread and all these pictures for everyone to feel involved or nostalgic about 67 Dart's with 4Barrel 273s. Hey you going to be @ Good Guys? I am trying to get my car on the road by then so I can make it!

Man you young guns(and old ones) are ripping it up! Great to see young men, such as yourself, keeping the hobby going! And the photography is killer! Go man! Go!

Nope.

It is the 2nd paint job on exterior and it has a cool Survivor look. Open the hood, BLAM Resto . . . Well I might be able to get it painted by my neighbor. I'd have to help him build a Bow-Tie 327 though... Time will tell.

If I do, it will either be "Medium Turquoise" like it should be... OR Green! Like Sublime Green. Love the color! I will probably rock the Turq though, it makes me feel like MIAMI and Blow are around the next corner ;)

and thanks guys. I am glad to be making a lot of progress! Can't wait to put it in a Car Show now... All weathered on the outside and clean and shiny underneath. Ha. That just sounds fun!
