measuring backspace

Take a straightedge / square, easier with two people, and hold it so it's vertical against the wheel mount surface of the drum/ rotor. MAKE SURE this is tight and flush

You need to do this with the axle supported at approximate ride height, IE with weight of car level and on axle.

Now just measure to the closest interfering object, usually your springs.

Then figure a "fudge factor" to allow for expansion/ movement of the tires.

THAT is where things get interesting---how much are your tires going to balloon?

In a hard corner, when you REALLY got 'er leaned, how far are things gonna move under there?
