I am getting ready to bring my small block 340 to the shop. I will have it sonic checked before boring. Anyone know the limit that a cylinder bore can be in its thinnest point to ensure a good round bore and proper ring seal? Application will be strip street and shooting for 500HP - 550HP with a stroker crank and W2 heads.

Thanks

Keep it to the min. since thicker bores eqaul strenth and long life. It's not worth the few extar cubes to go another .010 when you allready are at .060 or .070.

I would not run it if the walls dont test thicker than .0150 on the major thrusts. Nothing thinner than .100 at any point on minor thrust or pin axis. Also, find out how they test. If you dont get a report with 20 readings from each bore they aren't really inspecting it. You should get a report back showing each hole's results.
