Missing

72 Duster is supposed to have all new tuning parts. But it has a miss could the box on the fender be going bad. It dont do it all the time and when u call on it , it runs like a scared rabbit. It has a 2bl carb do they have a fuel filter in the carb like some 4bls do. I'm goin to change the fuel filter first, hope that fixes it.

Where is your timing?

Have you checked the accelerator pump on the carb? Those old 2 bbls are notorious for the accelerator pump wearing and not giving a good shot.

cycle the linkage for the carb and look for a steady stream of gas to shoot down the carb. If it's not there or choppy, then replace the accelerator pump in the carb.

My first impression is dirt In the carb or gummed up.

Dump in some gumout brand carb cleaner and drive around

Not sure on the rpm range but at 40 mph while just cruising not at a fast speed.

Thats a classic over-advanced symptom.
Or, plugged air bleeds/emulsion holes.
The quick check is to defeat the vacuum advance signal.

What he said^^ "Unplug vacuum line from distributor and plug the hose and try it. You may also have water in the fuel and just enough in the bottom of the carb to occasionally get sucked through a jet.... Does this car have EGR?
