It's done for another year. Our season is only 3 days long and is a very high pressure hunt. We took all of the pressure out of it pretty quick. I took one of my grandsons, (Marcus), on his first moose hunt We got to the stand at 5:15am and got settled in. I could hear a bull grunting at what I figured was at least 500 yards out but it was going away from us. The weather was very warm and the fog was dense, (20 yard visablity) At 5:55am I decided to give a call and try and get the bull turned toward us. I called again 4 minutes later and that turned him. I called again at 6:15 and he answered along with another bull that was off to his side. I didn't want them to get there to soon as legal time was 6:47am. We waited and could hear them getting closer. I leaned down to my grandson and told him we were going to shoot one of them as they should get right to the base of the tree we were in. The look on his face was priceless. I could now hear them very clearly as could the grandson. Marcus was getting very excited at the is point. I asked Marcus what time it was and he told me 6:40. I decided to call lowly one last time. The closest moose was only 200 yards away at this point and I told Marcus to tap me on my shoulder when it was 6:47. We could now hear the moose walking through the pucker brush and I figured it was closer than 100 yards. It was, I could now make out it's shape through the fog and it was only 20 yards away. I raised the rifle and could just barely make it out in the scope. It must have gotten a sniff of us and it took a few quick steps. I aimed 1/3rd the way back and half way down it's body and squeezed off a round. It bolted toward us and I fired nearly straight down and shot it through to top of the back and the bullet went down through an broke it's back, the moose dropped 3 paces from the base of the tree. By this time Marcus was just hopping. We climbed down and got a couple of pics and then the work started. It took my brother, Marcus and myself 4 hours to get the moose back to the camp.
