I hope this is the right place to post this, I was looking to see what other peoples opinions were on this. I bought this 73 duster with a 318, I just bought an intake manifold, carb, plugs and wires blah blah blah. The heads have slight film of surface rust from sitting. I cranked the motor over by hand all rocker arms and push rods move. Should I put it all together and try to feed it fuel and spark and see what happens or should I pull the heads?

Doesn't look all that bad to me. Pull the distributor and prime the oil pump. Get some fuel in the carb to make sure it starts up right away and see how she runs. Hard to kill those engines.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is my first resto so I'm sure I'm going to be on here a lot for advice.

if the oil looks questionable change it
do do the dist spin and set the timing
if you do not know how to do it with the "set the timing to 5-10 degrees BTDC" and twist the dist till the points break"method post back
run a compression check after you have run it for awhile
and check the timing chain
