Just pulling my little 318 apart for the stroker combo, but discovered some surprising stuff. The forged pistons I knew about, but it turns out I have 360 pressed pin rods (2532922) on what looks like a 2858383 crank - that's not a recognised casting no. so I may have misread that.

I've discovered its been balanced at some stage too but don't know if internal or external? The (presumably factory) damper has no extra weight or a big groove in the outer ring but it does have four large 'dimples' in the front face of the outer ring. Anyone know what its off?

I'd quite like to pass the rotating assembly on with as much info as I can provide.

Cheers

Jamie

Iron cranks (nodular) are typically externially balanced. Steel cranks are typically internally balanced. Some 318 truck cranks are steel. If it has been balanced by a machine shop id'ing shouldn't be necessary. A reason to know for sure might be accessories, such as flex plates or pullies etc. 318 being a small journal engine like 273 or 340, a 360 crank won't fit. 340 rods are floating pin usually 318, 360 are press pin as you mentioned. After market parts can be different though. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Pretty much knew all that. Don't know where the balance job was performed, or if it's been balanced internally or externally (to a factory amount of external balance). the dimples on the damper suggest its not neutral balance but there were no weights on the flexplate or converter???

.......post a pic of the damper................318s with a cast crank r internally balanced............pressed pin rods came in the 318 starting in 73 or so.......kim.......
