Mopowers' 66 Dart Build

I took a break from the headache headliner and decided to install the trunk seal.

Once I got back on the headliner, I got it almost finished up when I realized the second to last headliner bow had sunk down a bit. Turns out, tab that holds the bow had bent down, allowing the bow to drop. Son of a *****!

I ended up pealing back the headliner and making a reinforcement to prevent it from dropping again. Luckily, I was able to reinstall the headliner without a problem.

This weekend I was able to finish up the headliner. It was my first one but I'm pretty proud. A total pain in the ***, but more tedious than "difficult." Not bad for a bonehead.

With that roll bar, you sure had enough obstacles to work around. Good thing you're not a fat guy!
You're right about that. The cage certainly didn't make things easy. I just wish I was as flexible as I used to be.

Out of curiosity, I called a few interior shops before installing the headliner and none of them would touch it with a roll cage installed. Go figure.

The headliner looks great. I just finished mine and it is an 8. Waiting for cold weather before using a hairdryer to heat and cool to hopefully draw out some areas I am not happy with.

Thank you. I'm not sure if the later Darts are any different, but on the '66, if you have the perimeter of the headliner glued in place with contact cement, it's pretty easy to go around anywhere that's wrinkled, warm it up a tad, pop it off the cement, pull it a little tighter, and re-stick it. If that doesn't work, I've heard several hot/cold cycles may eliminate some of the wrinkles as well. At the end of the day, if there are some wrinkles, it's not the end of the world. Good luck!

Finally got a photo of the windshield installed. It went in pretty easily with help from the wifey. The corners of the lockstrip were a bit of a pain though. Time to get the interior back together. That should be fun and easy.

Fun stuff this weekend. I got all of the seals and weatherstrip installed, although aligning the door and quarter glass was a little tedious. Everything seals nicely and the glass rolls up and down nicely.

I also made these trim pieces for the headliner since I'm not using a proper package tray.

This is the kind of car that stops me at a car show. All the details and clean work stands out. You can be proud of how it looks!
Thank you. I'm looking forward to getting this finished with. Or close enough to drive or do some burnouts at least.

I've been pretty bad about updating this, but this turd is getting pretty close to moving under it's own power. Here are some updates:

Made the fuel and vent lines that go in the trunk:

I bought this fancy vent filter to keep the critters out. Also had to make a nipple from a bulkhead fitting and a couple washers for the floor bulkhead fittings:

Not a good photo, but here's the bottom side:

Then came the wiring. Not funnest, but I drew everything out in a MS PowerPoint file beforehand so at least I had something to go off of.

Trunk wiring progress:

I was able to use quite a bit of the factory trunk harness for the tailights with some minor tweaks. I did upsize the black wire to 16g and wrap in some fancy braided covering while I was at it.

Wow, I hope so. I just saw this thread was started 18 years ago.
Holy crap, man !
We all deal with delays though.
I bought Jigsaw in 2019 and it doesn’t look much different from then.

Made these little nuts to use as ground points for the front and rear frame rails.

Got organized with the rest of the wire for the portions forward of the trunk:

Made a handy bracket for the coil:

And mounted the relays for the fan:

Was it??

Yeah, we originally bought it as a father-son project and when my folks moved out of state, it pretty much killed the progress. I've been chipping away at it slowly since. It's never really been a priority, but everyone knows how that goes.

I had to modify the shifter to mount a microswitch that only actuates in first gear for the 2-step. This, along with the brake pressure switch should mean the 2-step only activates in first gear with the brake applied.

And wired up:

I made some kick panels out of some ABS and laid out some electrical components.

All wired up. I still have some clean up to do, but I'm waiting to check that everything works as it should before I clean it up too much.

Random progress.

I wired up a starter bump switch on the firewall to make running the valves easier. I had a previous car with one and it was handy.

This is how it sits now. I need to plumb the fuel system from the pump forward and connect the shifter and it'll be on the road (hopefully). I also just ordered up some wheels and tires, so when those come, it should give it a new look.
