Stupid. Me. Looked at these two and decided to "leave them where they lay." BUT NO!!! Could not leave it alone. They wanted 200 for one, 240 for the other. Last week went out there again. It's a 25mi round trip. The Evinrude on the glas boat may or may not be fixable, the Johnson (both 35's) on the aluminum boat probably not. So, parts engines. Glas boat is junk, the trailer is OK, the aluminum boat trailer I will likely scrap. So I told the guy I'd give him 200 for everything, stupid stupid STUPID. TWO trips out there with the truck and trailer and dragged 'em home.

The aluminum is a 61 Sea King 14ft, it's 1 1/2' longer than the little 12' Crestliner, about 10-12 wider at the beam, and 3" higher in the stern so a bit safer. Just got done today, took the boat to the car wash, then down to a little lake and floated it at the ramp to test for leaks. !!!!!DRY!!!!!

So how many do you have "NOW"?

So how many do you have "NOW"?
Three

1...The first a 12 foot "rowboat" Sea King

2...The little 12 foot Crestliner runabout. The problem with it is way too "not enough" freeboard. Notice the stern is not notched. That is a short shaft outboard, the stern is only 17" tall

3....This thread, aluminum 13 1/2 ft Sea King. I even "got in" to the DMV today, and they sounded like registering it would have no problems, but I have to wait until after the first of the year. **** I can't believe they can't do a "next year" registration, in the LAST WEEK of the previous!!

Snow is here although not much, so the boat repair is likely done. I feel a LOT better about this latest 'mess" after some messin, some thinkin, and some doin' and lookin.

The "new" boat is a bit taller in the stern than the little crestliiner, it's 1 1/2 ft longer, and about 10" wider at the beam. I really wanted a boat with a stern splash well, and after looking this'n over it seems like it would be easy to build, at least compared to the little Crestliner. The stern wood needs replaced, so it will have to 'come apart' back there, anyhow. plan is to have an oversize piece cut, with a bend to fit up against the stern, and sandwich between the new stern wood. I'll fasten small aluminum angle along the sides, cut the piece close as I can, and then either rivet or stainless hardware, screws and nuts. Seal the corners with caulk. Front will be similar, angle across the front, with a vertical splash "plate" clear across and above the sides of the boat. If the thing leaks a little it won't be a big deal. Depending, "I might" be able to use the front of the well to support a seat back for the rear seat bench.

This is not quite as cool a boat as the little Crestliner, but I think it will make a cheap and "not so hard" very servicable boat for "the little bit of fun" that I have left.

I have so damn many 35hp and one 40, I have almost lost track. most of em don't run.

My buddy was telling me about old boat motor collectors, apparently its quite an illness...
i have a couple oldies in my shed too.

Dragged home another 35hp Thursday. 58 Johnson 35. Starter is junk. Got a minor "pop" out of it on starting fluid. The lock is damaged and it tilts trying to crank it, plus it's near freezing, and I don't have the strength. It would not turn when I picked it up, don't know what was stopping it. May have flooded what gas was in the carb down into a cylinder. I pulled the plugs, oil in the holes and it turned over. Gave the guy 40 bucks

In no particular order, there's the 57 Evinrude 35 off the "red junk boat." This I bought for 80, junked it, and it provided the trailer for the 12ft crestliner I resealed the lower unit, but never got it done. It needs a carb cleanout. Had it running but rough

Two more, both parts/ fix are the two boats I just brought home, one of which was junked. 57 Evenrude 35 manual start, and 57 Johnson electric start. It's missing the flywheel and recoil starter. One or both may be fixable don't know yet. The trailer under the red/white junk boat is really decent

Then there's the oddball, the 65 Evinrude 40. Boat and trailer were absolute junk, and free. Outboard is likely worn out does not seem to have much compression. The bad is that it is ELECTRIC SHIFT and I want no part of one of those. Have not decided what to do with it yet, if anything
