Hi guys, I’m putting a 408 Stroker in my 72 Dart Swinger. The block was black when I got it. What’s the right paint for it? I’ve been hearing that Chevy blue is the way to go. Isn’t the right paint available? Thanks! And Happy New Year to all

Unless it's a restoration, or you are trying make it look like one, the right color is....... whatever YOU want.
Pretty sure a 72 small block would be Mopar blue (not the Mopar "blue" that's really turquoise).

70's Mopar blue.

Yeah, the block is a LA 360 Stroked to a 408. The block is black. I’m not going original at all. I’m putting a serpentine kit on her, but I want the block and heads to be the right blue

That’s a lot of info there! Thanks! Do you have a paint code or color you’d use on a 72 Dart Swinger with a 408 Stroker? Right now the block and heads are black.

Hi Mike! Do you have a paint code for that? I’m hearing the closest color to real mopar blue is ford or chevy blue. I’d like my motor to look like a 72
No I don't have the "code" mine is original. Companies that sell reproduction parts amy have the correct color. Try Mancini.

Since a 408 stroker was never an option...

If you are looking to make it look stock. Then paint it the color of the base engine ie 340 360 400 383 what ever is used to make a 408

I will never paint another engine black ever. Try and find and oil leak without die on a shiney black engine. We even had a guy come here that demanded his BB Ferd be painted yellow.

Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to do. It’s a 360 block

'72. Here's 2 different blues, probably same mfr, several years apart. Had an old can and a new one. Just get a Mopar blue rattle can from the auto store of your choice and paint your whole engine at the same time. Buy 2 cans.
