MSD and Voltage regulators

Whats the best regulator to run when running an msd setup. I used to always run the Mopar electronic stuff on street and strip. That included the early constant voltage regulator, blue one. I did run the blue regulator with the msd box. But I am concerned this will cause problems.

I've never had a problem with the stock or the recent black constant regulators with my MSD's. What is the concern?

When running the blue constant voltage regulator the box seems to get hot and I have read not to. However I see alot of people who have switched and they still run the constant voltage regulator.

I never noticed if my MSD box gets hot with the constant voltage regulator box.
I've had a lot of MSD failures without it and this I know for sure. But with it..... I'm not to sure, never thought about it myself to be honest.
