msd ready to run distributor

Im looking for a compact design where i dont need a big ingition box+coil. so i found this msd distributor but in the instructions it shows it connecting to a ballast resistor but has a note to bypass it. so which is it?

if you are running the MSD ignition box, (bottom picture) bypass it since the MSD boc controls the voltage to the coil. If you are running with just the MSD blaster coil, (top pic) use the ballast resistor.

when i installed my friends, i bypassed it...i used just the dist and coil...works great...

Follow the directions and bypass it. I would venture a guess that they show the ballast as a reference only.

Modern electronic control modules can vary the dwell so you don't need the ballast to protect the coil from over heating.
