Did Chibby ever make a 4 bolt main 327?

I believe they did. Used in the Vettes. I bought one in 1979, but then sold it shortly after, and if I recall correctly, it had a 4 bolt main. I later went with a 4 bolt 350 truck engine. It had tons of power with the solid lifters in my 1972 Chevelle.
 
Yeah. I got a LS5 454 hangin on the engine stand in the shop. I love how the big block 4 bolt mains are made. ALL of the main caps are 4 bolt caps. Even the front and rear. The small blocks only the three intermediate caps.
 
I recall all the fuelie 327's were 4-bolt...and yes, the big-truck motors were. (IIRC, they also had steel cranks & forged rods.)

However: the "large jernal" 327 is the same as a 350 block...which is quite possibly what it is.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Very easy to make a 4-bolt 327 with a large-journal 327 crank. Don't know if they were ever factory-made, but I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of one, even a 375 H.P.
 
They especially need the 4-bolt main caps because their
blocks are not the "deep-skirted" design Chrysler uses.
 
Don't think chevy ever made a 4 bolt small journal 327(the one's of legend), I have a chevy book buried--- but I think all the 4 bolt stuff came sometime in 67 year when the 327 was phased out for the 350.
can't believe the ad doesn't have corvette mentioned somewhere.

A 327 is a 350 with a large journal 307 crank. Easy to find those parts for this build. 4 bolt 350 sbc's are not as strong as a sbc with splayed 2 bolt caps and girdle. Unless you machine the block for billet mains
 
I am not a specialist, but according to sbc history and technical books, the first 4 bolt main in production was the 1969 z28 302 4 inch bore, 3 inch stroke.

The good 327's are based on the 283 with small journal's & forged crankshafts-- the early 60's to 1967 with double humped heads-- anything not small journal is not the performance 327. much like Mopar changed the crank register size in 1967,Chevy changed the main journal size with modifications to the small block.

This feels right to me, I didn't know about the splayed 2 bolt deal

I believe you're right. I can still remember the parking lot speculation about the "new" Chevy 302 when it came out. I didn't realize for some time that it was the "same bored 283" that we all called a 301
 
Had a 327 four bolt main. Sure wasn't stock. Forged 12:5 to 1 TRW's,good truck(essentially pink rods),and that crappy 307 crank. If I build a 327,gonna be a small journal. Closest thing ,to a 340.
 
Any 4 inch bore sbc 4 bolt main from 1969 and up can be used to make a 4 bolt 327, just need a 3.25 stroke crank & the correct pin height piston & you have a 4 bolt 327. 1969 z28 302 inch engines were the first production sbc blocks, after that a train load of 350 inch blocks were made with 4 bolt mains. 1969 was the last year for 327, large journal blocks began in 1968. All this mix & match stuff could be obtained from Chevy parts counters or junk yards if you know what to look for.

Right, you could "make" one, but that wasn't the question. Hell, we "made" 302s, (called 'em 301s) and maybe a few 327s, before Chevy did
