Is that needed or common practice ?
I've been considering the crossover tube to assist number for main bearing oiling.

I would like to think of a shift point 65 to 6800 and maybe still pull into 7200 but 8K not likely. I don't know how far I can go and still be streetable to some degree I'm sure that's a matter of willingness to put up with some Bad Manners. I'm looking to something like track days on the closed road course. Autocross, Road Rally time-speed-distance type stuff. Autocross is really small for the Dodge Dart. At least the ones I've been to. The course is Honda size the cones are Honda size. It was a Stone Grocery getter when I got it .7 1/4 rear open differential. Very embarrassing at the autocross but I had a blast anyhow. Time progressed and their Came the 8 3/4 lsd a very healthy 727 new drive shaft add a leaf spring to the back urethane bushings . Stock sway bar in the front adapted. That grouping was a huge Improvement. all still with the 273 2 Barrel single-plane intake, huge performance. 273 has had nothing but basic maintenance oil changes points and plugs.

I would start with another block. Not having the original main caps can be an expensive problem. Those are some odd oil mods, there are plenty of blocks around, may cost $500 or more, but may be money well spent. Good luck with your project.

If the machine work already done is of high quality I'm going to stick with it otherwise it might be downgraded to a lower output machine. My present thinking, though likely wrong.

I haven’t seen a 340 block/engine around here for less than $800 in the last two years. And that is in unknown condition. 360 can be had a lot cheaper than that.

I saw a couple blocks posted here for sale in the last month. They were in excess of $600 plus shipping or a trip to pick up.
There's a member here with some high-grade main caps for sale on a regular basis I believe. If my block checks he might unload a set with me.
Several years ago I had a 68 340 intake removed from my possession we'll say , I'd hate to see what the cost to replace it would be , oh yeah and add in the four-
speed AVS that was on top of it .
I bought it along with the block and crank it all came with the car I bought the '69 Dart .

The blocks I've seen here in the last month we're priced at $600 I believe the other one was at 650 . Definitely under eight before shipping. I remember one had a sleeve in the number two cyl. bore.

I've got three 360 blocks here on Deck if the 340 doesn't check out.
If I had known then what I know now I'd have a rack full of slant sixes and 360 long blocks. The local yards wer stacked to the gills like cordwood.
