My Duster Adventures

-
If I remember correctly, I think I jammed a 2x4 front and back of the tires, measured that, then made it a little tighter yet so I’d for sure not get any movement.

That's what I am doing as well. Checked again just to be sure and I am getting 20.25" or so overall.

I don’t know why I didn’t include a picture of the car sitting on the cribs in that post, but here’s one. If I remember correctly, I think I jammed a 2x4 front and back of the tires, measured that, then made it a little tighter yet so I’d for sure not get any movement.

With today's lumber prices, you might need to go rob the trash pile at a new construction site!

My current plan is 10.5" wide, 20" long and 12" high. I am adding an additional 20" board at the top (3 wide) so the tire has a full surface to rest on, and I am making it a 2 part assembly like @75slant6 did. Current projections show that I can get everything out of (14) 2x4x96 @ $4.52 each, locally. So like $70 for the wood. Not as good as it used to be, but better than the plastic ones at $200 a pair or more.

Just read this whole thread. Great build. I'm about to be starting back on mine soon. I'm assuming since there hasn't been any updates recently you've been pretty busy. Hopefully we will see more soon!

I appreciate you taking the time to read through it all! You are correct on the reason for no updates in a long time. For nearly the past year and a half I’ve been working evenings, weekends and any days off on my shop. I’ll hopefully be done with it in the next 2-3 months and finally be able to get back to working on my Duster again.

That makes sense. Having a place to do the work is very important.

Caleb, any shop updates?
Yeah, it's come quite a ways since the last video I posted on it. A lot of the little stuff I was doing wasn't really "video worthy" so I've just been focusing on getting stuff done. I'll hopefully post an update video here in the next couple weeks.

Do you ever see paint and body work in the Duster's future or are you good with the "Rust-to-mod" look? That's NOT a shot at you, I WISH looks we're important to me since paint and body are about the most expensive aspect of a build. By the way, I haven't updated my post in a long time. I just hop on racerjoe (Tim's) 1205 Garage- '70 Duster build and post pictures there. Tim hasn't told me to bug off, so I'll keep doing that.

I’m not ruling out the possibility of doing body/paint work to it some time in the future but for now, my plan is to leave the exterior ratty and get everything else done on it. Realistically IF I ever paint it, it’ll probably be if Ziva wants it done to drive away from her wedding or something.. she’s 2 1/2 now. Lol
My next project WILL be getting painted for sure, a 67 Valiant 4 door. Yeah I know, it doesn’t make any sense, paint the 4 door “parts car” and leave the badass muscle car ratty.
Also, no offense taken, I LOVE beautifully painted cars like yours and Tim’s, I’ve just learned with my daily drivers that I really don’t like washing/detailing cars all that much, so the ratty ones work for me.

I fully intended to have a ratty duster then FB marketplace messed me up haha. I can't believe I have to wash and wax now.

Both of you guys crack me up! Vanity plays apart in my decision making

Some long over due upgrades are coming to the Duster over the next couple months! A few of the things I plan to do is finally install my speedmaster aluminum heads and Oregon Cams reground cam, install the factory 5.9 magnum MPFI (with a custom tune obviously), all new fuel system, clean up/paint the engine bay, new headers and exhaust, finally do my remote mount shifter so I can finish my console, install a Vintage Air A/C, and if I have time before MoParty, new windshield, headliner, insulation and carpet. May be a few other things thrown in there as well as we go, we’ll see.
I will be posting videos on my YouTube channel as I make progress. Here’s one a did a week ago, outlining my plan.

And here’s my first update video with the progress I made this week. Hopefully more updates coming in the near future!

I’ve been working on the Duster fairly consistently but haven’t really completed anything yet, so I haven’t posted any more videos yet. However, here’s a picture to tease y’all a little as to what all I’m doing in the engine bay.

that'll be going low then to need those inner fender bulges. air bags maybe?
neil.
It'll be staying on the coilovers and I'm not sure if it'll be any lower than what I had it at but the tires would rub against the inner fenders occasionally and had burned/discolored the paint so I decided to go ahead and do this now, that way I CAN go lower if I want and I don't have to worry about my new paint getting messed up.

You got ripped off. Why don't you let me give you what you have in it and take it off your hands. It would make me feel better.

Fly in here and help me finish up this engine build and install and we could at least sit down and talk about it.
