Hits kinda close to home if you go into a McDonalds these days.

What ivory tower idiot thought people would want to use a damn kiosk, instead of ordering from an actual person, when you walk through the door? Yeah, I know. They’re there because of Covid and all that, but now that’s Covid is (more or less) gone, the kiosks remain.

Why? Ray Kroc would be ashamed.

McDonald’s is nothing more than a restroom stop for me now. Screw ‘em.

Ran into that at a Little Caesar's after a car show one evening. Walked in to get a "Hot & Ready" pizza- had nothing hot/nothing ready, and didn't know how to or couldn't process a cash payment. Never going back.

New Taco Bell in my area; installed during Covid. No person at the counter at all, just screens. I don't go in there.

You can also thank minimum wage hikes too, here the minimum wage is somewhere around $15.00/hr. As for me, I don't remember the last time I walked into a McD's.

A couple years ago I went to pay a traffic ticket. Put the cash on the counter and the clerk told me that they don’t except cash, bank card, credit card, cheque, or money order. To which I replied you are the government that issued this money and you don’t except it. Blank stare back at me.

I looked up the definition of "legal tender" and got this from Cornell Law School:
legal tender
The last line makes it sound like since you offered cash payment (in legal tender) and it was turned down, the debt becomes null and void.
I realize you're in Canada, and this applies to the US, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Have to check that out.

Even airports refuse cash now. You want to walk away with that beer that greasy sandwich and fries, better have a card. Legal, no, but just the way it is, post covid.

Not a new phenomenon. Probably 25 or 30 years ago, I flew into Cleveland for a pre-bid meeting and job showing. Since I was in the process of trying to ween myself off of wild credit card use at the time, I loaded up with cash in my wallet and left all of the credit cards at home. The rental car companies would not rent me a car using cash. I offered to pay in advance. Nope! Credit card only! I had to take a limousine (who took cash...and a lot of it!) to my hotel and accept a ride to the job showing with a competitor who i knew from a previous job.

25 or 30 years ago I was still using Traveler's Checks (remember those?)- imagine trying to do that now!

It's the $15-20 per hour minimum wage crowd for a non skilled job, plus the inability to find someone to actually show up on time and work.

They shouldn't be able to refuse cash as it's legal tender

Looked it up. In Canada you can pay your debt in cash to the court, which I find hilarious given the circumstances I think it’s called the “defence of the currency” the lean or the law suit will disappear and the person you owe will have to get his debt from the court.

I seem to recall that when my wife and I renewed our passports a few years ago I was stunned to learn they did not accept cash.

:wtf:
