ok, so after several days of questions here on the forum and lots of phone calls all over the country I have finally ordered the last of my parts. this is all going in my 72 hard top scamp. let me know what you think!! :toothy10:
here is what Im going with....

D&P billet super comp 9 inch converter 3000 stall
TCI super street fighter 727 transmission
8 3/4 with 391 gears

still need pushrods (have to measure them) and gaskets but it sounds like I will have to buy half a magnum set and half an LA set and then upgrade the head gaskets. was going to buy cometics head gaskets but found out they are $94.00 a piece!! couldn't stomach it but am still contemplating.....:read2: I went with a smaller cam than I had expected for several reasons. I don't know if anyone noticed that I posted about my buddy entering all my motor specs into the computer where he works. they have some serious cam selection program(not a free one but like $600) that picks the ideal cam for your setup. he entered all my specs and it popped out 2 cam recomendations. the closest we could find on the shelf were the 286hr and the 292hr through comp cams. the smaller 286 made like 8 more hp than the 292. airflow is restricted a bit with the edelbrock heads we are guessing and if your cant flow more air, more cam isn't going to help obviously. the heads will be cleaned up and enlarged a bit but you can only do so much with them with that push rod galley in the way. also, the stock roller lifters are a limiting factor. I called everyone I could think of trying to find some true Magnum hydraulic roller "performance" lifters there just arent any. they are all either rebadged stock replacements or retro fit lifters for 360la blocks which flat wont work. I figured, since the stock lifters are only good to a max of about 6500 maybe, why not build the motor to shift at around 6200? thats right where this cam is good too. anyway let me know what you think. I will at least have something to work on this winter! I will post some pics of my car soon. thanks again for all the help.

I don't know anything about the Eddy Magnum's, but I was wondering why you went to the 1.5 rockers. The stock magnum's are setup to use the 1.6 rockers and I was wondering what that might do to your geometry. The other thing I noticed was the 2 1/4 exhaust. I would think that a 2 1/2 would be better. Just thoughts.

Looks good 2 things i'd change though.. more and better carb. at least a 850 holley or Quick fuel...not a fan of T.C.I. anything much better transmissions out there, how about a local guy you can trust to build you a nice one..

Coyote Jack, the comp cam calls for 1.5 rockers. if I went with 1.6's the lift would be beyond the capabilities of my valve springs. besides, we pretty much figured out that the next size up cam would lower my horsepower and torque (at least it did on the computer)so 1.6's would most likely do the same. I'm sure the 2 1/2 exhaust would be better but the car has brand new custom fit 2 1/4 pipes from the headers back with new flow masters and mopar performance chrome tips. hate to throw it out and start over.

stroked 340, I already had the 750 edelbrock sitting here new and figured I would try it. since I'm only planning on spinning it to 6200 with mid sized cam and going for torque , I am hoping to be surprised by this little 750. I shopped around a bit locally for a tranny and found prices from $1400 -$1800 for something that was built to handle 750hp(over kill I know but I want it over built) I had a summit gift card for $250 and the tci was $1205 "delivered". while the street fighter would be marginal for my application the "super street fighter" is good to 750 hp it still has automatic shifting capability and has all the good stuff in it. it also is forward shift pattern which I wanted to retain since my car is a factory floor console car. I figure if I am putting between 450 and 500hp into this tranny and even throw another 150 of nitrous at it, I still have a 100-150hp cushion. have you had a bad experience with TCI? I have only had experience with 2 of them, one in a chevy street car and it worked great with no issues and the other was eventually broken but after probably 2000 hard nitrous passes were it was run beyond its horsepower rating. both of these were just the standard "street fighter" versions and not the Super street fighter.

Save yourself some $$ and go with a nodular crank, it'll hold up no problem at this level and then some.

830 holley annular dp would work nice too.

is this a magnum block?

You will not make much if any power over 5800 with that carb. 4" arm engines basically hit a wall around 5500 with a 750cfm carb. They might rev higher, but they dont make any more power.
