1962 Valiant more-door resto-rod with an LA 360 and a pushbutton Torqueflite 727. I would like to keep the pushbutton actuation rather than switching to floor-mounted shifter.

Originally the car had a TF 904 and a slant six. I am using the original park and shift cables, which are way too long.

"They wiggle to and fro, and you can tie them in a bow!"

Even though I've tried to support them, they hang down too low and look really terrible!

(I wonder why they are too long? It seems they would be too short, if anything, because the 904 is a smaller transmission than the 727. But nope, they are too long. Maybe the non-stock engine placement has moved the transmission forward, or maybe it's that the V8 is shorter than a 6.)

Would any of you smart guys have any suggestions about how to route these cables, or what to do with them to make them work? New cables are expensive, and would probably have to be made to a custom length.

Thanks very much for any suggestions you can give me.
