What replacement crank dampners are 340 folks using these days? I want a real good quality one, for street / strip and trying to avoid the $500.00 price tag. Any recommendations? Thanks HR20
Speedmaster® Harmonic Balancer PCE291.1067 | Buy Direct with Free Shipping (speedmaster79.com) This one has multiple timing marks (see notes in the spec list) but either one should work with timing tape or add your own mark.
Note that this balancer is for INTERNALLY BALANCED cranks. Late model 340 and 360 engines are externally balanced.
ATI Super damper. I've said this before - ran one on the 4 cylinder mini-stock I raced. Running an RPM range of 5000 - 8500 at race speeds all season. At the end of the year there was next to no wear on the main and rod bearings, and you know how these 4 cylinders vibrate. That's why I spent the money for one on the 340 I built last year.
If you find one for a pre 70 passanger side timing marks let me know. I used a Summit damper and remarked it.
I purchased the speedmaster fluid dampener and it looks like a really good unit. Fluid dampener knockoff but bewarned mine had alignment problems it's not a bolt on and go you will need to space out alternator pulley and water pump one half inch to a line
If I had to do it again I would consider the pioneer it seems to be a direct fit and highly regarded.
I have the TCI Rattler on my 408. Good unit. Makes a funny noise at shut down. Other than that, Excellent!
