I purchased two of these for a 74 Duster as you can see they don’t fit so well any suggestion on where I can get a cap that fits
My car is locked up in storage but could the fill tube flange come in from the trunk and not from outside the car?I purchased two of these for a 74 Duster as you can see they don’t fit so well any suggestion on where I can get a cap that fits

Uhhh in the last pic isn't the tube supposed to be INSIDE the quarter panel ? that will pull that cap in a lot closer too. (all of mine are and so is Tinmannz)I purchased two of these for a 74 Duster as you can see they don’t fit so well any suggestion on where I can get a cap that fits

I mentioned that in post #2. That would sure make a difference.Uhhh in the last pic isn't the tube supposed to be INSIDE the quarter panel ? that will pull that cap in a lot closer too. (all of mine are and so is Tinmannz)

You're all good as long as the op reads them.just skimmed past, instead of reading,, have a lot of duh moments lately.
My car is locked up in storage but could the fill tube flange come in from the trunk and not from outside the car?
You are right TMM, fuel neck gets put in from inside the trunk. All you see when installed are the 3 screw heads when looking from the outside of the quarter panel.
Then the gas cap will fit correctly.
So it goes like this, drop the gas tank, then position the filler neck into the quarter panel from the inside the trunk. Then work the gas tank back up at the same time working the filler neck into it. Keep filler neck properly positioned into the quarter panel from the inside, while bringing the gas tank back up to position.
Someone just stabbed the filler neck in from outside the car with the gas tank still in the car.
The combination of the filler neck being on the outside of the quarter along with the gasket being between on the outside of the quarter pushing it out even further could account for all of the discrepancy.
Nope. The gasket is supposed to be just like it is. He’s got the wrong cap. He might be able to tighten those screws a bit, but that does not account for the cap being a 1/2” out.
My car is missing the gasket, it’s supposed to be there.
Yeah but on the inside of the quarter between the filler neck and the inside of the quarter.
Ok, I went back and looked at post #15. You're right. I stand corrected.
