ok so I am working on my wiring harness now. It's a 70 dart and I am adding fitech fuel injection and msd dist with 6al. I want to take the factory harness and remove anything I don't need and then add the new wiring making one factory looking harness. My question is what items can I eliminate. I Would still use the voltage regulator correct? Starter relay would stay. Also I don't remember if the headlight harness was ran on driver or pass side.
Thanks for any input
Joe

There isn't a heck of a lot you can eliminate. There is no wiring to a carburetor, unless you had electric choke, or the idle stop/ distributor retard solenoid on a very few cars. Might be a smog doo dad or two, but I don't think that applies to a '70

Wasn't your car a breaker points ignition? Very little you can remove if any

Ok thanks makes sense. Do you happen to know if the headlight harness was ran on driver side?

The headlight harness is, in fact, run on the driver's side. It is a separate harness.

As stated earlier, there is not a lot you can eliminate. But there are extra connectors in the bulkhead as well as the three harnesses that plug into it from the engine compartment that you could use.

I did this also after I had a engine bay fire, Mine is a 74 se so there was a ton to eliminate (smog motor) The real question is what do you need then toss the rest. Good time to look at all the connections and clean/repair as needed also.

I am changing out the wiring harness on my 65 Dart can any one give me the color and function of the steering column wires the new harness is a universal and the original was not hooked to any thing.Thank you

Go to MyMopar.com. There are service manuals for many years there free, some of them due to the guys here

There is also aftermarket wiring diagrams, not always correct, or detailed, but sometimes easier to follow

I just rewired my 65 Valiant. It's two pages of schematics that are really easy to read. Follow the links above and print them out. They are the same for my valiant as your dart. If you can't understand them let me know in a pm and I'll send you the correct wire colors and where the go

As for what you don't need? Well. There ain't a whole lot that you can eliminate. Pretty much everything wired In is needed except smog stuff.
