Can someone please decode my fender tag. I'm trying to figure out which transmission is in my 75 dart swinger. It has a 3spd auto on the column. But unsure if its a 727 or a 904?

It was never changed. I'm the third owner. And the car was in my family it's entire life and only has 14k original miles.

ok so its a 904. checked the pan last night. How do you tell what size rear end? (7 3/4, 8 1/4, etc.) also how do you tell what gears are in the rear end?

Do you have the broadcast sheet?

otherwise as posted, "spotters guide".

To check ratio on the fly,
if open rear, jack up one side and turn the tire one full revolution and count how many times the pinion turns.

If sure grip same as above but have both rear wheels off the ground.

If it turns just more than 4 times 4.10
less than 3 time 2.70, 2.90 etc...

Or count the ring gear teeth and pinion gear teeth and divide R/P. 41 tooth ring gear and a 10 tooth pinion gear 41/10 = 4.10

sometimes there is a tag on one of the cover/mounting bolts that gives the ratio.
