So I have a 225 that has a Holley 2 barrel manual choke. I’m running into issues with tuning it to have my vehicle run right with out it wanting to shut itself off. Is there an upgraded carb I can replace it with that has an automatic choke or should I get the cable and run the manual choke.

I would spend th small amount on a choke cable rather than spend a bunch of money on a new carburetor. The choke will only be in effect on initial startup anyway.
What exactly is your car doing? It can most likely be fixed with simple tuning.

I used a 500 on a 4 cylinder and it worked perfect. Go through the carb. make sure the power valve didn't blow out Those carbs do not have the anti back fire check ball in the base plate. Install one. If it back fired its probably bad

When I shift to drive and give it the smallest amount of gas it shuts itself off.

Look straight down the carburetor throat and operate the throttle linkage. Does it spray a STRONG stream of fuel in each barrel? Please report back.

I second that. I'm curious if the accelerator pump is functioning. It may be an adjustment issue. Make sure to open it slowly and rapidly to check if it's squirting gas at light throttle versus mid to full throttle.

So it’s getting a strong flow of fuel managed to drive it out onto the street before it died. Could it be that I don’t have the throttle cable installed yet. Just ordered it today should be in mid next week.

Um. So the gas pedal isn't hooked to the carburetor?
