I have a 73 dart swinger automatic with a 360 (originaly a 318 car) the rednecks i bought this car from 2 years ago chopped up the engine bay wiring harness pretty good and after rebuilding my motor im having a heck of a time figuring this crap out. I have wires that are cut and some that seem to be missing. I have a 4 post ballast resister. I really cant afford to buy a new harness so i have to try and make this work. I have a haynes manual but the wirimg diagrams arent the best in there

Toss the Haynes manual and download your wiring manual for free on this link.

Sorry, Okla, but even though those free diagrams are sometimes far FAR better than nothing, some of them DO have errors, and are not complete for different options and other features.

There is only ONE correct answer to the problem

YOU NEED to get yourself a reprint, either paper or CD of a FACTORY shop manual in the CORRECT year.

You can download a complete 72 manual right here, but there will be SOME differences in each year. If you are "good" at electrical the 72 manual, along with the Mymopar diagrams for 73 might get you through

Here:

There are several manuals posted, and some of the broken links at the start of the thread have been fixed further down Some of the other manuals do NOT have electrical and are not complet, IE are only "body" manuals, etc

The 72 manual:

Also "MyMopar" has some simplified diagrams of the alternator/ regulator and electronic ignition which are very helpful:

(By the way, browse around the "Master Tech Service Conference Library" link. These are various service videos and bulletins FROM Mopar)

Diagram of the 70/ later alternator/ regulator:

Diagram of both 5 pin (older) and 4 pin (newer) Mopar ignition:

I didn't realize that they were not that good. They have to be better then the generic Haynes Manual.

I fully agree that having the factory shop manual for the correct year is certianly the best way of doing things.

Those MyMopar diagrams are high on the list of "better than nothing". Some of the Haynes / Chilton have some decent stuff in 'em, but it depends on the year/ make / model (generally speakin' not just old Mopars)

You guys are GREAT thats exactly what i needed. This will get me running and i think i may just make my own wiring harness this winter. Again thank you VERY much

I PM'd about an engine harness for sale that may be cheaper and easier in the long run...Let me know.

I have been trying to reach you for a couple days now, I need your mailing address so I can mail your package!
Check your PM's or email me at my screen name at gmail.com

Thanks
John

Ok guys i got an incredible deal on a wiring harness for my 73 dart from "jos51700" GREAT guy to deal with by the way. Its out of a 73 duster slant 6 and i need a wiring diagram so i know where the wires go. My car is a 73 dart with a 360 (originally a 318) I dont think that should hinder me too much but the redneck I bought the car from chopped up the harness pretty good so theres some plugs and wires that are a little confusing.

It originally had a "318" not sure why it inserted a smiley face....lol

I don't have a factory 73 diagram, just 72 and 74, but if you can post specific info, we might be able to figure it out.

The deal on the smiley has to do with HTML coding, the figure 8 and the parenthethese symbol.

I can't type the code without making a photo out of it, because when you type it, it simply turns into a smiley face!!

Tomorrow ill see if i can post up some pics. Unless someone can post a killer wiring diagram between now and then
