Right. For that reason I suspect a problem in the valve body is more likely the case

Sooooo.... Installed new valve body..was real optimistic...reverse felt real good.. Shift to low and there was a slight delay engaging.. Then took off felt pretty good, shift to second and felt nothing.. Third..nothing....stop try it again ...nothing... Then at some point in trying again it managed second but no third
Fluid level OK...servos all seemed good air testing...initially tried without kickdown and that's when I was able to coax second... Hooked it up and have first only...the only other thing I have not mentioned that I changed was a deep pan/filter extension
visually the accumulator looked OK (no spring installed). I dunno what in the world I'm doing wrong.. Again the servos air tested fine..kickdown I'm using a 4.2 lever..band adjustment is good...trans took off in first no matter what forward gear the shifter was in
