Mopar made an adapter that was .80 reduction when using 3:55 and lower gears. Your 21T gear will probably be correct if you can find one of the reducers.

I found the reducers but I think they only work on later models.
and I would need 77%

you need a green 20 teeth unit now from the 1962 fsm 3.55 rear ratio(13'' tire) or the 3.58 ratio (14"tire), Lawrence

Looking at my 65 FSM a vehicle with a 3.55 rear end ratio could take several different speedometer pinions. It appears it depends on tire size (most likely the height of the tire) and which transmission is being used.

found this from 2009 discussion:
These colors do not appear in my FSM. My guess is that they are for later model transmissions:
Light Blue - 28 teeth
Natural (Beige?) - 27 teeth

1962 - 1965 Speedometer Pinions

16 - Brown
17 - Orange
18 - Dark Purple
19 - Dark Blue
20 - Green
21 - Gray
anyone else have the color/teeth options for the 60-65 style cars?
more:

6.50-13 2.93 17 orange
3.23 19 dk blue
3.55 20 green
3.91 21 grey
7.00-13 2.93 17 orange
3.23 18 dk purple
3.55 20 green
3.91 21 grey
7.00-14 2.76 16 brown
2.93 16 brown
3.23 18 dk purple
3.31 18 dk purple
3.55 19 dk blue
3.91 21 grey

Boldface line above is closest match for the OP's tire size and gear ratio. The 1965 FPC does not list 7.00-14 as an available tire size, because tire sizes changed in '65. The old 7.00-14's new equivalent was 7.35x14, and the old 6.50-14's new equivalent was 6.95x14. The '65 FPC chart calls for a 20-tooth green pinion for both 6.95x14 and 7.35x14. Checking this chart, we see that a 7.00-14 is most closely equivalent to P205/70R14, which is the size the OP is running. We also see that the difference between 6.95x14 and 7.35x14 is the difference between a P185/75R14 and a P195/75R14 or between a P195/70R14 and a P205/70R14, a difference not large enough to call for a different speedo pinion.

So, either a 19- or a 20-tooth pinion will get the OP's speedometer into the ballpark of accuracy. A 19-tooth will drive the speedo a little faster, a 20-tooth a little slower. The tire size equivalences in charts like the one above are approximations, but given that the P205/70R14 is on the larger-diameter side of the 6.95/7.35 split, a 19-tooth pinion is probably the best pick. Selectivity with the '60-'65 pinions isn't anywhere near as fine as with the larger '66-up pinions.

But an 18-tooth pinion is definitely not the right one for this application.

OK let’s start over, I have a 21 tooth gear, the one pictured, in there already and it worked fine for the 2.76 gear I had.

I have replaced the 2.76 with a 3.55 gear, so I need at least a 27 tooth gear.

My speedo reads really high now as I expected it to with the gear change. If I put in an 18 or 19 or even 20 it will read even higher.
The gear is completely plastic with no metal parts and I have never seen one of these before. I don't think it is color coded, but if it was it looks kind of beige and certainly not grey.

According to my 65 FSM the yellow gear (22 teeth) is the largest one that was available. If you have a 904, here is what was used for a 3.55 gear with the tire size listed:

Tire Size 3.55:1

6.50-13 20 green
6.70-13 19 dk blue
7.00-13 20 green
7.35-14 21 gray
7.75-14 19 dk blue
8.25-14 19 dk blue
6.70-15 18 dk purple

I hope you find what you are looking for as I will be doing a similar swap soon and will be watching this post.

it isn't a 904, it is an 833 4 speed if that makes any difference,

And seeing that there is zero adjusstment ability in the 4 speed I am not sure how a larger gear would work anyway.
maybe the only hope is the inline gear reduction do-hicky

Well I have news, so far I am unable to find the gear I need, I am also unable to findout if the gear I need ever existed.

Talking to the parts guy at the local dealership, I have delt with them for 30 some odd years, they are telling me that the 21 tooth gear is the largest that was available.

the gear reduction things will not work because they are for later years also.

I will keep looking, but so far my best bet is to reprint my speedometer face. which doesnt do much for the odo :)
there must be a solutoin other than replacing my trans.

One thing to think of is if a Mopar pre-66 came with that gear ratio in any other body besides an A body you could use one of them. 66 was the change to the different gear setup on the A body speedo so probably the same on the Imperial and others.

I found some gears at laysons
but ouch ---

What you're looking for is a reducer like the one shown toward the bottom of this page:
http://imperialservices.net/Aparts.html

Back in the day they were pretty common on Dodge vans in the wrecking yard..so if you have any wrecking yards around check all of the 62-65 vehicles that might have a low gear ratio no matter what transmission.

You might also try Pat Blais Transmissions....(206) 365-1966

s and k said to go buy one from ford, I looked at them they looked the same, so I gues it is worth a shot.

Just standard 14" 215/60r14

OK according to the 65 FSM for an 833 with 14 inch tires:

Tire Size Gear
7.35-14 18 - Dk Purple **
7.75-14 18 - Dk Purple **
8.25-14 21 - Gray

** Use .8000:1 Ratio Adapter #2464420

Looks like your best best is to use the ratio adapter
