new 340 engine start up questions

Make sure you are on TDC No. 1 firing....as the damper goes by twice once for no.1 and once for no.6...

that is what he is trying to explain above....

How do you check that you're on #1 if your timing cover is already on?
 
what I do.....on a new engine...

went I set the distributor for the last time...after priming the engine...

while turning the engine by hand....I watch the No. 1 intake valve....after the intake opens and closes.....went the damper goes to TDC again...No 1 will ready to fire....
