Broke cam in and everything went well.
Spec lash is .022 in and out.
I set it at .019 cold before break in.
Only checked 6 rockers so far.
At least .003 to .006 over now after 20 min. break in and 50-60 street miles.
I don't have any of the older records and I was wondering if this much lash was normally gained after a break-in? Or do I have stuff to worry about LOL
Thank you for everyone and anyone's experience...

When reading the plugs remember I went from 100ll to 92 non-ethanol about 4 miles ago.

Set them and go drive it a bit more and check them again. They move around a bit from first fire up sometimes. Especially single shaft systems like that.

You are bolting all that stuff down for the intital lash setting, then you fire it up and do the break in and the shafts may move a bit (doesn't take much) and the lash may move.

So retorque the shafts, verify lash and go best on it a bit and check again. I'd bet they stop moving.

Thanks men. I wasn't freaking out, but weren't sure eathei.
I just didn't have the data from last time.
Seems like every other time I must have broke in hydraulic cams.
This reminds me I'm headed over to work on that 403 Oldsmobile today and we just broke that in recently and we haven't checked the valve lash. Though that is the pedestal type.

Is that a temp fuel line setup? I would be worried there is not enough flex for when the motor rocks back and forth. It could break the metal line.

LOL, yes it is rubber connected at both ends. No problem would be it would push to that side more than pull.

All three of my hydro-cam installs did that too, but not all lobes equally. 1/4 turn preload was not enough for long, lol. I had anti-pump ups tho, so I waited for the others to catch up. Then I retorqued the heads and reset the preloads to 1/2 turn, and "problem" solved.

I love my new work bench!

I'm jealous! I have to clear a spot on the floor and hope my big feet don't kick a part underneath
something that I can't get to.
