This is Part two of my not so new Duster makeover.I bought the car in May of 2013 and planned on having a V8 in it by now.Anyway I will be installing a 318,4 speed, and 8 3/4 over the fall and winter. The plan is to have it running again no later than April 2015.
I sold off a rebuilt 383 to fund the 318 4 speed conversion.I ordered $900.00 worth of parts Friday.Ordered 6 can of RustOLeum Hemi Orange yesterday.Today I scored a bellhousing and inspection cover for $70.00.Tomorrow I am buying a Hurst shifter and a Centerforce flywheel. So now I pretty much have all the key parts to drop in the 318.But I would really like to paint the engine bay while I have the engine out.So this will slow me down until I can afford the paint.
The 318 I have is a 1974 and had a total rebuild and has about 10,000 miles on it.Everything is new in the engine.Stock rebuild with a Lunati Vodoo 256/262 454/475 cam,Weiand Action Plus 4 bbl intake. I will be adding Doug's headers,650 Holley,Summit ready to run distribitor,Mopar Performance fuel pump, and a Milodon high flow water pump. The engine does not look like much right now.I will be stripping it and repainting it.Also I have to replace the truck oil pan.I gave the cheap chrome valve covers it had on it to a FABO member.I plan on using a set of vintage valve covers since I am going for the old school look.
First plan of attack is to pull the engine and strip and paint the 318.Pics to come soon.......... In case you missed it New Duster makeover part I...... http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=233622&highlight=duster+makeover

Is the tranny a od, just wondering because the 3-4 rod is upside down.

As clean as the Duster was when you bought it, - it seemed to represent the total embodiment of a PLAIN JANE automobile. It's amazing what the tire/wheel combo and stripes did to make that Duster transform into a real head turner. I know you're not done but it's already one sweet ride! - And I love the interior. - I might like black but it's so common. It seems like everybody has black or white.

I sold the slant 6 Sunday and will be pulling it out this week.So then I can get to moving on this project.I have most of the parts to do the V8 conversion.I am still looking for a nice set of vintage smallblock valve covers.I will post a few pics soon....

Engine is out! The factory paint under the hood is thin and there is more surface rust than I would like to see. I am going to pull off the front fenders, grille, front bumper, suspension, and K member. Then strip the rust and paint .Then prime and paint..
