Hey guys, I finally started taking my 68 dart apart last night. I love the older cars, but not too familiar with them. My plans for the car right now are to take out the slant 6, put in a small block that I can use as a weekend cruiser, drive to the drag strip, and drive home. If any of you have already done this, I'd love to get some opinions on how to proceed. Thanks.

There she is. Lol, thinking of naming her Blue Balls.....not sure on that though yet.

Welcome to the club! Plenty of people have done the drive to track, race, then drive home. It's all about building a street/strip car.
As far as the name goes, stuff a high output engine in it and the name "Blue Balls" will work great (I'd try to get a license plate with that name too, if the state would let me).

Looks like you have a nice start with that baby. It looks nice so I doubt if you are going to do anything on the body. Just in case you are you should mbe made aware that windshield and back glass rubbber is very hard to get right now.

The body looks great on the outside, but leaking windshield wiper seals ruined the driver floor pan. She had to sit outside for awhile, but she's got a roof now. Thanks for the info on the seals. She has the 225 slant six, and thinking about putting in a 360. My original plan was 440 6 pack, but quite a few mopar guys deterred me from that. Told me the headers would cost more than the engine because they would have to be "over the fender headers." Also thinking of running a gear vendor overdrive unit. Anyone here used those?

Welcome to FABO from SoCal. You're going to have fun here.
Make sure the rearend that came with your slant can handle the power of a smallblock before you make the change. Most can't. You'll probably need to upgrade to either an 8.25" rear if you're running a low-power smallblock or an 8.75" rear if you're planning on racing at all.

Nice '68 2 door sedan. I love the color, very clean looking.

The 7.25" that is mostly likely on your car already will do fine with a 318 (even slightly modified). As others have said, the 360 will need something stronger.
