My car had it's master cylinder scavenged off of it when I bought it. New ones are very expensive and I was wondering if it is smarter to pay the boatload of money for a new one or search the boneyards for an older one?

I know breaking is a life and death situation, do you think I could do fine with an old scrapyard one?

For something like that I would go with new and not have to worry about it as much
You can swap to a late model aluminium master cylinder

Why not get a remanufactured master cylinder? They are pretty cheap for most applications. I would look it up and give you the part numbers but I have no idea of the application or the brake information.

The last two remans I have bought have been original Mopar castings.

I have original manual front brake master cylinder cores here PM me if interested

I think a reman was only about $20 for my Duster. I have used reman's before and never had a problem with it

yeah I put a $20 reman on my cuda like 4 years ago and I haven't died yet. haha
advance auto zone oreilly's napa any parts store should be able to get them next day if they don't have them...just yank a core off some junk car (they don't check to make sure its the right one your returning as a core most of the time)

Just put a new aluminum MC on my Duster. If your going manual disc/drum get one from an early 90's (90-93) B150 van. It's got the right bore size (1 1/8").

$30 from rockauto! Then just get the 4 to 2 bolt adapter from Ehrenberg/Summit on the old interweb. He's the one that recommended the MC above to me for my car and it stops great. Great pedal feel. Glad I ditched the numb/heavy/power robbing power steering stuff while I did the motor and front end refurb!
