Welcome and nice car! Sorry about your loss too.

Don't be surprised if the resident VIN police chime in about not having the "correct" VIN rivets.
yes I can make some rosette or rosebud rivets...whatever they are called. I think the car was painted at some point, there are cracked paint looking marks showing thru the blue in spots. I think they painted this blue over the original, might be why the VIN plate rivets were changed out. If I decide to strip some of the car I guess I'll find out

I have no problem with the screws at all. It's funny to me what some people on this site get their panties in a wad over sometimes.

I been plucking around with this car...ended up pulling the trans to get a better look at everything. New gasket kit and hopefully some steel shift forks on the way. The bronze original forks had some wear...synchro's I think are OK. Seems to be really unmolested..all the original tags are in place. I twisted off a left rear wheel stud till I realized the left side was reverse thread....ordered new 1/2-20 studs and lug nuts to fix that up. Lots to fix up before the carlisle show as I hope to drive the car there....

First off, welcome to the site! You've stumbled onto the best Mopar site anywhere. Secondly, my condolences on the loss of your pappy. Good pappys are hard to come by. I had one. I know. Lastly, cool car! I think your pappy would be really lad you are finishing his dream. Keep us posted!

this weekend the 2nd of my Dad's A-bodies followed me home to my shop. Not sure what to do with this one...has a 408 stroker and 4 speed in it with either 3.55 or 3.73 gears. Springs moved in a bit, 2-3" wider wheel tubs. Currently misfiring badly when you lay into it. Looking forward to some hammer down pulls after I get the ignition sorted...

Just to recap what you probably already know: 67 383 Barracudas had dual half-round cutouts for turn down tail pipes. Slant six and 273 two barrels had one left side half round cutout for a single turn down tail pipe. Commando 273s of course had the single rectangular left side cut out for the cowbell resonator/tip.

My originally slant six 67 has the one left side half round cutout. Now has a 360 with TTI headers/2.5 inch exhaust. I cut off the TTI turn downs because they hung lower than I liked. Put on lengths of straight pipe with round chrome aftermarket tips. I know some don't like them, but Dad ran them on his cars since the mid-fifties, and I like the look. Anyway, I didn't bother trying to modify the valence, just ran the tailpipes under the valence. You really can't tell there's no cutout on the right side unless you squat down and look closely. Here's a pic (have put new AMD bumpers on the car since this photo was taken).

I just looked again at the original post. The AMD rear valence he has is the 68-69 style with two smaller rectangular cutouts that 340 and 383 (and 440, I assume) cars used. Not correct for a 67 Barracuda, if that matters.

yes correct the valance sticker says 68/69. This is the only reproduction one available from what I have heard? I haven't started drilling spot welds yet, contemplating if I want to install it or not. Thanks

You can get the correct rivets on ebay and elsewhere. I'd do that and not worry about anything as you have all the right numbers and paperwork as well as the original tag. Pop em in and forget about it. :)

If you keep the 273, the car would benefit greatly if you swap in a non-overdrive gearset with a 3.09 first gear. That's what my 65 Barracuda Commando 273 came with. (Also 64-65 slant six four speeds.) In the mid-70s, I made the mistake of swapping in a later 4 speed to get rid of the old ball and trunnion front u-joint. This was after I had replaced the 273 with a 340. Even with a 340, a 2.66 low gear and 3.23 gears turned it into a real dog off the line. I put up with that for a couple of years (at the time, I did a lot of interstate driving, so didn't want to change rear gears), then found out I could put my original gear set in the later trans.

Don't know that a 408 would need the lower low gear.

If you insist on having a right side cutout to match the left, a proper modified piece of exhaust tubing could duplicate the left welded in and finished, be a whole lot easier than replacing a valance. I didn`t bother with mine. But you do you. Have fun...

Correct.
Also 67 trunk floor not repopped. 68-69 trunk floor is which has 2 gas tank straps running front to back.

My car with the 67 bb valance and factory correct exhaust. Nice and subtle, looks great, imo.
