Getting my ducks lined up for my 340 swap and now I'm at the fuel delivery stage.

Okay I have a brand new replacement gas tank for my 66 Valiant but I want to run 1/2" lines to my carb. I'll be using an electric fuel pump. Should I use a 1/2" fuel sending unit (if i can find one.) or should I have my own outlets fabricated and use a return line (if needed?). What size AN outlets would be needed for 1/2" lines? Where would the best place to mount the electric fuel pump? I dont want a fuel cell in the trunk if possible.

at carlisle gastanks.com had sending units in 5 /16 3/8 and 1/2"

IIRC the 2 smaller ones were 60 at the show and the 1/2 was 120

1/2 is overlikk IMO - i'm into the 12's with a stock 5/16 line and 2 holleys on top of tunnel ram... 3/8 would feed that 340 all day long, but its your fuel line.

Totally agree! Maybe for radical stroker big block. 3/8" is way plenty for an SB, and yes, you should run a return line with an electric fuel pump.
 
The guys are right 3/8" will be big enough for your application. But to answer you question AN 8 is 1/2" size. AN fittings are in 16ths of an inch: AN 4 = 4/16 or 1/4", AN 6 = 6/16 or 3/8", AN 8 = 8/16 or 1/2", AN 10 = 10/16 or 5/8", AN 12 = 12/16 or 3/4", AN 14 = 14/16 or 7/8" and AN 16 = 16/16 or 1"
 
I was looking at the FBO website and they have 5/8" to the fuel pump and 1/2" to the regulator and 3/8" to the carb. They listed this setup for 13-15 second modest street and bracket racing car. May be overkill for my car but I would like to be in the 12s as well DJVCUDA. Wondering if this is an improved fuel delivery approach for a street/occasional strip car.


Would 1/2" to the fuel pump and 3/8" to the regulator and carb be some what more practical as opposed to the setup below from FBO?

Still qeustioning where the best place to mount the fuel pump?

I had a Stage 1 455 Buick that ran low 12's with the stock tank & pickup with a cheapy 5psi carter street pump and never had any fuel delivery problems. It is easier to push fuel under pressure than it is to pull fuel so mount your pump as close as you can to the tank.
