New tires are garbage.

Well they didnt last long. I put 4 brand new Hoosier Quick Time DOTs on my car in September. All 4 of them are covered with dry rot on the sidewall.

I dont know what killed them so quick, probably a mix of cold weather, uv rays and ArmorAll, but they dont look very safe to me.

Im going to go with the new M/T drag radials this time in a much smaller size. Probably a 275/50 but maybe a 275/60. Either one is alot smaller then the 325/50 on the car now.

You might want to pull them off at the end of the driving season and keep them inside somewhere.
Actually You might want to call Hoosier and ask them why they would do that in 6 months. Maybe they could do something about it.

I agree with Norman. A polite inquiry with Hoosier might net you an explaination, or possibly compensation.

And you'd buy another set if you know what to do the next time, right? 8)

My tires I just replaced were five years old and no cracking or dry rot. Yes the car is garaged but still five years is a long time. I never use any thing on them other than car wash soap and water though, and Armor All is right out. I hate that stuff.

Im gonna try but I'd like to go back to a radial anyways. Plus theses are rubbing alittle so this way I can get something alittle narrower and alittle lower to get some more gear out of the thing.

I just checked the Hoosier web site for info on tire storing.

They say Dont use anything to shine the tires because it will eat the rubber.

They also say that the rubber can freeze and crack if the tires arent stored out of the cold.

Should have read it last year.

At work we use a Silicon spray and it works quite well on all new and used cars, the silicon helps risist the watter and moisture. I can find out what it is if anyones intrested.

Summit should be able to bring it up if you can't find it.
They still list parts I bought last year on their web site.
If you know your last name and have a customer number on the back of your book you should be able to find it on their site.

The tires went on the car at the end of September. I think I bought them in July. I only drove the car maybe 10 times after they went on.

Yeah I'd definetly complain about that. 6 months is no time for tires to dry rot. They probably had them setting in their warehouse for who knows how long. I can't see 6 months of cold weather and Armor All doing that to them. Even if you want different tires you would be money ahead if they warrantied them. You could always sell the new ones and get what you want.

On the Armor all thing. I have used it for yrs. and had no problems with it but I don't use it on tires.

One post earlier said to use silicone spray instead of Armor all. Armor all is silicone based spray.

Only one no-no I know of concerning Armor all is never use it in your shop when your doing body work. The silicone mist can float for several feet and if it get on primer the only way to get it out is sand it off. It's very hard to clean off anything.

I think the problem with armoral is more for the southern guys in hot climates. Heat will dry it out and make it crack. I was told if your going to armoral your dash or what ever do it regularly and you won't have problems but if you stop it will dry out on you fast. I have used it for years with no problems either, but I have never used it on tires either though.

Stick some drag radials on there, just as much grip but a proper stiff sidewall street tire.
The compound that Quicktime is made from is the same as a regular slick, I'm sure and I can't imagine it likes low temperatures and salt

Yes armorall is a Silicon based spray, but it also contains other chemicals that will dry out quickly if not used regulary. The Silicon spray that i use is put on all rubber, hoses, tires and it helps protect from the moisture from setting in to the tire/rubber. Its kinda like RainX for Rubber.

Andy, They with out a doubt require you to keep bolth hands on the wheel. I'm gonna go with drag radials in a much smaller size this time. I dont have enough power to need a tire this big and there sucking up all my gear.

This time its getting some 275-50-15 M/T Drag radials. They may be small but they are R5 compound so they should work pretty good on my car.

To dark to get pictures right now. Hopefully it wont be raining when I get home tomorrow. I ordered the tires on July 7th and they sat in my Basement unmounted till Sept 20th when they were mounted. Then they sat in the shop till the spring relocation was done around the 1st of Oct. I parked the car in the begining of Nov. when it got to cold to drive with no heat. So 6 month of sitting destroyed them.
