peeling back the covers for the first time

I tried reviving an old thread over in the Steering forum but haven't gotten a response. Hoping for some help. Looking at where my Power Steering Gear leak is and the service manual, it appears the location is the oil outlet fitting? Would replacing the fitting with a repo from rockauto fix the leak? I am unclear if the seal comes with the fitting, since I do not see a separate seal p/n.

Thanks!

From your pictures it looks like it could be a couple of things. If you don't already have a Field Service Manual (FSM) download one at MyMopar - Mopar Forums & Information - Service Manuals

Looks like it could be the return hose leaking past the clamp, or maybe the hose is cracked underneath. More likely though is bad o-rings

The return hose is connected to the "control valve body" and the pressure hose is connected to the "steering valve body". The control valve body can be removed by the two bolts toward the front. In between are (IIRC) 2 o-rings. It's a simple remove and replace. What I do is use a turkey baster to remove fluid from the power steering pump. Then remove the return hose. Remove the two bolt and separate the control valve body from the steering valve body. Remove the old o-rings, clean up the surfaces, and put it all back together. Fill the pump back up with fluid. Then I raise the front wheels off the ground and turn the wheels back and forth at least 5 times. Go close, but don't go all the way to full stop each way. Then recheck the fluid.

There's also 3 o-rings between the steering valve body and the steering gear, but that's a whole 'nother repair. Don't go there unless its still leaking after you do the control valve o-rings!!

I just looked at your RockAuto link. I suppose the control valve could have cracked but you won't know until you pull it off. I would go with new o-rings first.

I got to see the underside clearly for the first time. Turned out to be very nice. There's just some west coast surface rust. Thinking of replacing the entire exhaust setup. I posted more photos in a garage.

I would say "crusty" is the best word to describe my slant 6.

It's true I have been classic VW all the way so far. I had a sobering thought about 6 months back while passing a gnarly wreck on some LA freeway. Driving any old VW as a daily driver is like driving a motorcycle, if you get hit you are screwed, maybe dead.
I have been a vw guy as well I have a 65 vert and a 71 fat bug vert in my collection. air cooled rocks.

Nice ride, don't know how I missed this.
Welcome. Enjoy your beautiful ride

Anyone have any thoughts on what kind of gas mileage a stock /6 225 would get?

one eye on the gauge and one on the road, she got me home. but 30 minutes after parking I see this.

looking like the expensive radiator only held up for a month.

The radiator was removed and found to have multiple shotty welds. Quite disappointing that the build shop lacked quality. All is well now and the Dart is running solid.

Super happy with the condition of the dash pad.

Just some minor cracks near the speaker grill.

Removed the aftermarket steering wheel cover. Wanted to see the condition of the paint. 51 year old wear.

With the warmer weather I had more windows and vents open and this randomly appeared on the carpet. There must be more.

The front seat is dumping its foam but overall is in pretty good shape.

Looks like I had a build sheet under the drivers side front seat.

Passenger side is holding up nicely.

The original carpet has some wear spots but overall looks very nice. Apparently Dodge made things to last back in 1966.

These Kraco floor mattes are probably 10+ years old. Definitely helped preserve the carpet.

I am very impressed with the quality of this classic Dodge, the commitment of the workers that built it in Los Angeles, and the pride of ownership shown by the 2 previous owners. Earlier today when I was driving someone screamed out of their window "hot ride!". I just smiled.

Battery died on me last night and left me stranded. Took this opportunity to go with a red top Optima as the replacement.
