NHL 2024-25

Meanwhile....

The MN Wild are still helping to make other teams look good. I mean, they barely beat the Habs last night! WTF's up with that?

Gonna be a long season.

The Jets finally lost a road game last night, Lightning beat them 4-1. I wasn't able to watch the game, but did catch the recap this morning. Backup goalie played pretty well, he was 3-0 going into the game, but Tampa did a good job of keeping the quality scoring chances down, and Vasilevsky was solid.
Panthers up next!

The Oilers have clawed themselves back into 4th in the Pacific although Vancouver has a few more games in hand. I wouldn't say they are firing on all cylinders though. Goaltending/defense is sketchy at times and they get a lot of shots but not so many goals. Special teams aren't doing well but it could be worse. They obviously have the potential to turn much of it around. The Connor and Leon show is great but some of the other guys seem to have cement hands.

Leafs win another one coming back from behind against McJesus and winning in OT.
Nurse got his bell rung good by Reaves, hope he's OK.
Oh Bruins lose in OT against Phil McKraken. All is right in the hockey world
Oilers playoff run last year was not due to their goaltending. That was something they should've addressed in the off-season. Again. JMO

Agreed, the Oilers biggest weakness is in the net.

Jets lost 5-0 to the Panthers tonight, rematch in Winnipeg Tuesday. Couple of really fluky goals Hellebuyck had no chance on, Bobrovsky was on top of his game.

The Oilers are hard to watch some days. They didn't capitalize on a 5 minute PP when Nurse got rocked by Reaves and then blew a 2-1 lead with a few minutes to go. Bad defensive plays and so so goaltending were to blame. They were out goaltended once again. Its a common theme. Also, they can't score and are way down the list on goals per game. Its a bad combo.

They showed PP & PK stats comparing last yr to this yr and they are polar opposites.
It's a shame for Mcjesus and Draisaitl, i like them both altho Leon can be a pouty ***** at times. They have had mediocre goaltending for all of Connors times there. But that isn't news to any hockey fan.

Yeah, you can't win if you don't score.
Not sure what cap space the Oilers had/have but there were quite a few top ranked goalies available in the off-season (Markstrom, Ulmark, Stollarz) and probably a few more I'm forgetting. That's all on mgmt. All they have needed the past 5-6 years has been a goalie. They have/had 3 ex Leafs. I've never seen that before, Skinner, Campbell and Pickard. Campbell had "flashes" with the Leafs but for Oilers to give him that $$ was insane.
Not ragging on them, just what I see.
Leafs goaltending and defense has been very similar. I think they nailed it this year tho (so far)
The Oilers really seem lost. Out goaltended again but who cares when you get shutout.

A top tier netminder and an improved defence would make them a really scary team.

He got greedy once Ulmark left and basically held them for ransom. Stark contrast from when Bruins went around the dressing room a few years back and several players took a pay "cut" to keep the same roster.
Man,the Bruins SUCK Swayman can't stop **** since getting the BIG money  :mad::mad:

@missing linc ...

Hey, Randy:

If Kaprizov is still out on an injury tonight (in about 30 minutes, in fact), you're welcome (for the 2 points)!

And if he's back, well...You're welcome (for the 2 points)!

I have some painting to do in the family room tonight, and if Kaprizov is back I may listen-in in the background, otherwise I'll likely just turn-on the Oldies station on the radio and catch-up with results in the morning.

(Edit: Ok, Kaprizov is back, but his partner Zuccarello is still out. I'll leave the TV on....for now.)

Thanks Jim, lol.
Started watching the game about halfway through the first period, Wild are playing pretty well so far, 19 shots on goal with 2 minutes left. Hellebuyck is on his game tonight, just gotta get some offense going for the Jets.

Yeah, they do some a little more fired-up than normal.....

40 minutes to go.

Wild played 2 strong periods, but Hellebuyck was almost unbeatable.
4-1 Jets final score.
I went to bed during the second intermission (been feeling a bit under the weather lately), doesn't sound like I missed much. Or at least not from a MN Wild point of view....

Congrats on the W!

Tonight’s Rangers/Devils game:

Leafs near top of their division, won last night, but lost Stollarz due to injury.
Wilson from the Caps took a puck to the face...OUCH!!

Well the Jets beat the Wild again tonight, Hellebuyck gets his 41st career shutout, final score 5-0.

thanks @ProjectBazza :poke:for the 2 points!
No surprise there! Hell, they couldn’t even beat Utah (UTAH!) at HOME the other night! Power play is pathetic, like 0 for 20 or something, and their offense absolutely sucks!

Sounds like their defense sucked tonight as well….

We were over at my folks place celebrating my dad’s 90th birthday tonight, which was probably a lot more entertaining than watching that game.

At least from a MN point of view….

Anyway, congratulations!

The Wild did have some good sustained pressure but they couldn't stay out of the penalty box. That cost them twice, almost three times, but the penalty had just expired. The Jets have the best power play in the league right now and it showed. Besides, the Jets barely beat the Sharks and then lost to the Ducks, seriously?
Injuries have been a problem for the Wild, if they can get and stay healthy they will be a strong team. Kaprizov is fun to watch, but I wonder if he's seeing too much ice time, he looked tired at times tonight and was flat out embarrassed by Alex Iafallo on one of the Jets goals.

Matthews out to upper body injury again, that's at least twice now. Usually fare well without him, but not last night.
6-3 loss against Islanders. But team concept and execution better this year. Hope to slow down on the injuries.
Go Leafs!
