Howdy all,

I recently picked up a '72 Demon project car.

The fender tag is a little bare... I can't seem to see anything that would indicate any sort of options:

Did this car come with anything, like a radio or even side stripes? What about a carpet, did that come with D2X9?

Sounds to me like a "no options" car but I wanted to confirm... Was the D2X9 standard or optional?

It's got at least two options.

The transmission is an option.
The deluxe interior was also an option.

Pretty bare bones car.

Probably a price leader for the dealer. Something they could advertise at a low price to get people in the door. Did you look for a build sheet under the seats and/or above the glove box? That will tell you more about what was or was not on the car.

Floor mat?

No radio very possible. No heater even possible.

Auto may have been optional. 3 spd manual may have been "standard".

Deluxe bench may have been an upgrade.

Sure sounds like a stripper.

Nice color, though.

I have a 73 Satellite with a floor mat and a/c. Kinda rare combo.
No drip rail chrome, no wheel well chrome. No day/night mirror. No lighter.
Not even deluxe interior. Standard bench (think taxi- springy and thin padding).
Does have side molding and am radio.
Has PS and PDB (which may have been standard on B body by 73).

Thanks for the responses. I didn't even think of the automatic being an option (which I should've known.)

The car didn't come with seats, but I'll check in the glovebox and dash to see what I can find.

Is there an fender code for the heater? On this page:

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1972/72_Dart0010.jpg

It shows the interior to be "Rubber Floor Mats Standard." Does that mean no carpet?

I'm going to stick with the color when I repaint it, might play around with the shade a little (thinking an electric blue.)

No radio, no side stripes. Both of those have option codes.

It would have had carpet though.

Was the D2X9 standard or optional?

Both, sort of. The "deluxe" part was an option, but it would have had some kind of code there for the type and color of the seat.

Is there an fender code for the heater?

For some years, yes. For '72 the heater was standard, there was a "heater delete" option though. Since you don't have the "heater delete" option, you had a heater.

If you take a look at this picture, it shows everything that would appear on any of the later fender tags. Even if your car had "no" options, it would show these codes. Obviously, there was a "standard" engine and transmission, but regardless they're on the tag.

And, anything that appears in addition to the tag above are options added to (or subtracted from!) the car.

My '74 Duster is my "bare bones" car, it has 5 options listed. B 43- manual brakes, G52- a '74 code no one lists, probably my remote mirror, N95- emissions control (california car), R11 - am radio, and V5X- rubber side molding. Thankfully the rubber side molding was just stick on in '74, I pulled it off as soon as I could.

Note, there's no heater listed, but it came with one. Same for carpets. None listed, but its there.

It is a Late 1972 build, so I would say it was ordered, not a dealer car. 7/10/72.

Someone wanted a Feather Duster before they were marketed.

There should be a code if it is a sold/ordered car.

I would have thought mine was special ordered that way, but there's no "sold car" code on my tag.

I wonder if the deluxe interior gave you carpet.
I don't think I've seen a specific code for just carpet.

I've seen several early 70's cars with no carpet, just a mat.

I wonder who had the job of deciding how to build all the cars that wern't specifically ordered? I understand they used averages frm last year to build "sales bank" cars, but there is a tag code for that as well.

You would need the broadcast sheet to know if it was ordered or a sales bank car.

Hi Barry!

Figures that would only be on the buildsheet! Not sure about the OP, but I'm still looking for the one for my actual car. There was one under each seat, but it turns out they're not for my Duster, they're for another one with the same color interior. :banghead:

Still need to check a few of the other usual places, under the carpet, etc...

The Y14 & Y16 codes on the fender tags were used at some plants, but not all, & not all the time.
