right here ...see me I'm waving.. NY
Battery full, new relay, no power at the key ignition wire at the relay with key on .. can jump start at the relay and it runs.. if I put 12 v power to the relay ignition terminal and jump the terminals and it runs ?? is there a disconnect switch on the column ? ..thanks Never mind, no ground at the ground terminal wire.... power at the ignition switch WHILE cranking ..missed the cranking part not just power on.... !! .. so I guess the neutral safety switch is shot .. Can't delete for some reason.

Let's "start", no pun intended, WITH WHAT IS IT THAT YOU ARE working on. Year, make model

Stick or auto. Is this a 74 model year?

"no power at the key ignition wire at the relay with key on" ???

Are you talking about the factory "start" relay? If so, the "run" position of the key has nothing to do with it

The start relay should have power at all times on the large stud/ nut. The square looking terminal feeds down to the starter solenoid.

If you have an auto, or a 70 / later car with a clutch switch, one of the 'push on' terminals is grounded with the clutch depressed or if auto, grounded in park/ neutral

The yellowish wire is the "start" wire and fires the relay with the key twisted to "start."

IF THIS IS A 74 MODEL YEAR it was equipped with the infamous starter interlock for the seat belts. which interrupts (opens) the "start" circuit when the interlock trips

I found it (70 Dart).. I had no power at the key terminal (IGN) with the key on, but then I remember you had to turn the key to start. Turns out there wasn't a ground at the relay. Jumped from the neg. battery to relay ground, car stated with key :) .. I sold the car and he is picking it up tomorrow. I'm going to give him a $100 back and tell him to get the neutral safety switch replaced or get the shifter adjusted, and to be aware it will start in gear.. I'm not able to repair it anymore, part of why I sold a nice 440 Dart., ......... thanks for reply.

I know you have resolution but ..

Have you tried starting it on neutral?

Done times if it is a linkage adjustment you can move the gearshift selector while the key is in start and it will find a happy place

Also on some years there is a seatbelt interlock relay that has to be energized for the NSS ground to make the cir. The relay has been known to fail

Good luck and your a good man for telling the new owner and making it right.

Yeah, I moved the lever through the gears and it wouldn't start. I'm a little light on electrical issues like this. Should have taken out the test light, before replacing the relay.
