something must have shorted out as wire from alternator melted back about a foot . Now I have nothing . No lights no starter , nothing . Fuses in fuse block are all good .. I just replaced alt and vr the day before. All was working great until short . Please help !!!!!

Finding a short can be hard.
Is anything touching a hot wire? Since you replaced the Alternator, did you cut a wire or pinch one?
I ran a parallel 8 gauge wire from the Alt. to the started lug. My Battery is in the trunk
