number of 70-71 Dart GT's built?

Hello all

I may have a 71 Dart GT. Has A65 code, grill is the black center one. I havent verified the rest of the tag, but if it is a 71 how rare is it?

It was saved from an appointment as a demolition derby car, is in rough shape, mostly just age, i.e. rust and some body damage, but most of the parts are still there. GT type wheel, 8 3/4, disc brakes, GT emblems under doors, center console etc. Had a 318/904 in it, dont know yet if #s matching, will check this weekend. Is this car worth saving? I can post pics later. I think it has A/C also.

I want a Dart to modify, frame connectors, 408 SB, perhaps mini tub, etc, so if this one is rare enough to restore I will save it and look for one to mod.

The best of my research shows approximately 1255 Dart GTs were produced in 1971. I've contacted Chrysler historical and they told me they do not have exact numbers (something about a fire in the records area) but there was ~96,*** Darts produced and, according to my source, 1.3% were the GT model.

Dan is right on, the best #'s we're ever going to get on this is ~1,255. But that's only a percentage, not an exact number.

The '71 GT's are rare, but they aren't worth a whole lot more than a regular '71 Dart. The GT package in '71 was mostly just an interior package. The cars got buckets, most came with consoles, and a different upholstery pattern. The '71's also got a 1 year only rocker trim "DartGT", that went with blacked out rockers and trim. But most of them were /6's, some were 318's. It wasn't really a performance option by '71, which is probably why there isn't a ton of additional value for them.

If its matching numbers it would be nice to keep it stock, but honestly you wouldn't lose any value by upgrading it as long as you don't cut it up too much.

Bruce was an incredible source of info on the '70 and '71 GT's, but he passed from cancer awhile back. The site still functions, although I don't know who maintains it now or if the registry is still active.

Here's a couple pictures of the rocker emblem. This side of my car is missing the upper chrome strip, but that trim (and the blacked out rockers) were available on regular Dart's. Only the GT emblem is unique to '71.
