How important is that in the real world? I have a 225 in my car. I’m putting a 408 Stroker, 727 trans, and an 8 3/4 rear end in it. Did I really devalue my car? C’mon!

I am not a "numbers guy". But having said that, I would keep anything swapped out in storage. If you can swap it back easily, you can make it numbers matching once again. These things are getting pretty old, so I guess it matters to some. Personally, if I had a nice clean original panel car, I would not do irreversible surgery on it.

Numbers matching is more for the higher performance original/restored cars...

On a slant 6 car, not so much...

Simple answer...No you will not

As far as getting your whole investment back from the swap, well that's another thing. :)

I have a 66K /6 '72 Duster. I feel your struggle. Any pics to post? What year? Model? Only car? The one in your avatar? cmon give us the whole enchilada!

But if it is, the only car that is, I'd put that V8 in it and save the other stuff.

No slant six or 318 A-Body's will ever be worth more with their original engines. 273 4-bbl, 340, 383, and 440 cars are different...

That’s my car in the pic. It’s all new now except for the motor. Factory AC that works.

I wouldn't think you devalued THAT car. Now, lets say you had a 1970 slant 6 4 speed convertible Barracuda and threw the slant 6 in the ditch for a 440. Then you would have devalued a car.

unless it's a pristine time capsule of a car that is some "dealer special order" that's like /6 with a 4spd, discs, rally wheels, totally optioned out to the gills deluxe situation-- and you have a build sheet, fender tag and dealer paperwork to back it up, then nah.

but like others said: dropping in a V8 will only increase the value in the long run.

Numbers matching is important for a high performance desirable rare car. (Think hemi, 440 Sixpack, etc.) Not important for a 225 car. Build what you want.

If you stuff all your original parts in the corner it won’t matter will it.

Thanks guys! This car has been a struggle. I’m finally on top and she’s starting to look and act better. You know what I’m talking about. The car is finally getting happy with the work. She’s a real survivor and I actually do have the build sheet!

Recently I was told that an A Body resto mod will sell for far more than a "numbers matching" restored or surviver.

I would pull and toss in the ditch a /6 in a moment. I know 1/3 of everyone on FABO just got mad.

My car is definately a resto mod! Don’t think they had touch screens and Nav back then
