Ok guys here is the deal. You all have seen pictures off my car I hope. If not here are a few pictures http://photos.yahoo.com/theamazingcudaboy. Well anyways the question is i got a bunch of body work to do on the engine bay and what not. I am not going to be repainting my car for a year or two until all the body work is done. I was wonder what would be a good paint/color to paint the areas that i have fixed until i paint the whole car it's new color? Looking for something that will easily hide under the new paint or remove in a few years. The new color is going to be a burnt orange redish color pics to follow of the color. Stinkin Harley Davidson did the color as the limited edition 2005 color, and of course my mother had to buy the bike. So the minute i saw the bike i was like dam that is the color i want.

Anyways to recap, good paint that will last 2-4 years that i can cover the areas of the car that i have redone? Also I don't care if it looks like a jolopy because it is what is under the hood that counts

I wouldn't put anything but primer on it and since you are going reddish of sorts then I would use the red primer. Put it on heavy and keep the car dry if its going to take 2 years to finish body work I dont know how you will keep it from surface rusting a little bit ...might be time to ask the paint store what is the hot trick

Why not just paint the engine compartment with the color you plan to paint the car? Or, you could do the GM thing and paint the engine compartment with low luster black.

If you are striping to bare metal make sure you use a self etching primer. And, if the car sits out side you will need to cover that primer with an acrylic urethane primer "epoxy primer". the inexpensive lacquer based primers are porous and the metal will rust again when exposed to the elements.

I agree, Paint the color you plan to paint the car. Then you can just mask it off and dont have to redo it later.
