Hi Folks

I have an OEM tach from a 1970 A body rally dash and want to install it into my 1971 A body rally dash. I will be converting the original point set-up in the '71 to an OEM mopar 4 pin electronic system, and am wondering if this tach (1970 points) will work without any modifications. Thanks.

I'm going to say "probably." There are various aftermarket tach boards out there that may help, if not

Hey CFD244,

You're in luck!

Contact Brian at Premium Dash Decals. He's in your province and has the conversion board for your tach in stock. I sent my tach to him to be converted and he installed the conversion and recalibrated the tach as well. Great people to deal with and very prompt service .

Thanks for the link. I was considering sending my cluster to them to get it ready for it's new life. I always thought these tachs would operate with points or electronic. I know my test equipment does.......Hooks up the same way for both systems.

I'm guessing that the factory tachs "supported" points vs elec ign?? Altho like Al said Brian has the upgraded electronic board. I dont know if the "upgraded" board was to account for changes in mopars electrical system, OR to make the tach itself more reliable(electrical vs electronic). Hope that makes sense.

If the original tach signal wire connected to the coil [-] terminal, it will most likely work with the Ch elec ign system.

I switched from an Accell Dual point distributer based ignition to a Mopar electronic ignition and the original tach wouldn't work properly. Readings were all over the place.I spoke to Brian and followed his suggestion to replace the board and recalibrate the tach as it is over 50 years old. Job done, tach works perfectly !
