Oil Filter Adaptor Gasket Question

Probably a stupid question but I need to ask. Do I use sealent on the oil filter adaptor gaskets?

only if it gives you problems leaking. I`d doubt the factory used any.

On the block to housing gasket I put a thin film of RTV on both sides. The gasket on the bolt I don't use anything.

Negative........No sealer necessary.

There are 3 gaskets in a kit.
Big gasket for the adapter.
Cork gasket for the inside.
Metal gasket washer for the outside of the bolt.

i have never used any sealant, however, i have used a thin layer of grease.
remember there are 3 gaskets..i have seen the thicker cork one(inside) get left out and it will seep out the end (thin fiber gasket)...tightening won't help.

Hmm, maybe I'll try it with no sealer next time.

I've never used sealer and had no problems.

Thanks for all the replies.. I installed the adapter with no sealant.. I did have to loosen the header all the way to get in though. definitely a two man job..

yeah its not fun trying to hold the gasket in place and not let the bolt drop while your trying to move it in place around the header by yourself like i did.
