Oil pan plugs - magnetic/non-magnetic ??

Is there a benefit to having/or not having an oil pan plug that has a magnet?
Some say yes - some say not - if not why not?

I run one. It holds some shavings. This is normal. Whats not normal is the amount of shaving thats not passing through the oil pump into the filter.
If the magnet is strong, the shaving stay there. If not, I'm guessing they could come off and get sucked up by the pump into the filter.
