Oil pan removal

-

20 w50 and high pressure spring, might that put too much stress on the oil pump drive?

It only increases the oil pressure, not your volume. Leave the oil pan alone and drive it.

This is a 360 stroker ended up 60 over to blue print the block it dynoed at 515 hp and 567 torque at 1st startup it has 40lbs after warmup at idle it is only 10lbs with Lucas race oil 20w-50 this is why I want to put a high pressure spring in the oil pump not hi volume because it is the stock pan the engine builder says 10lbs for 1000 rpm and everything is new inside they broke it in and tuned it on there dyno but my dyno sheets do not show oil pressure readings

The worst part is getting the steering linkage disconnected & out of the way. You will likely need to loosen motor mounts to get the engine up enough to get the pan off. Take your distributor cap off or you will be buying a new one.

I have not done it with a windage tray, so don’t know if that makes it worse.

That's funny because I am rebuilding the complete front suspension so that would be to my favor

If you're rebuilding the front suspension, once you get it all disconnected you could jack the engine up slightly and then remove the k frame. To me, it would be easier than fighting the pan to get it off. 4 more bolts and the steering coupler. :)

It is possible that something is in bypass, or spring area, causing low oil pressure. My 418 is a little low, 55lbs at speed and 25 ish at idle. I used my old oil pump, it had a couple circular scratches but otherwise seemed fine. I don't worry about it, been fine for 2 years. I had a '71 Demon way back, new. The oil pump spring stuck on it twice, but after an overnight sitting, it always came back. I would look at that possibility when you open it up, it may just be sticky.
Good luck
