Oil pick up Qs

Started putting my 360 together, but neither the haynes manual nor the hp how to rebuild your sbm mention oil pick up to pan clearance. What gives? Also, do you guys use a tach weld to hold it in place? Thanks for your help.

One thing you REALLY need to check carefully is pan to PUMP clearance. Some pumps and some pans don't get along. If your pump has countersunk cover bolts that helps. On mine, I had to grind the rear corner of the bottom of the pump.

For reasons that escape me, I cannot find any "Google" photos today
 
Thanks guys! I got a melling sv and it comes with a drawing of where to grind the pump if need be.

GREAT!! Be sure to check it carefully. My concern is and was, if the pan puts pressure on the pump, it might just break the casting.
